This pitcher plant is an exciting hybrid between the species (mirabilis globosa and ampullaria). It bears the characteristic small and compact pitchers that define the ampullaria species (and which make ampullaria one of our favorite Nepenthes species). We have a plant of our own on the windowsill, where it thrives.
Its appearance is very exciting, with large green leaves speckled with red. The pitchers are also beautifully red. All in all, a very beautiful, exciting, and not least easy Nepenthes species that does well on a windowsill. It is recommended to place it in a hanging pot in a location where it gets a few hours of sunlight every day. A couple of weekly mistings with a mister will also be beneficial.
Pitcher plants should not be kept as wet as many of the other carnivorous plants. However, the soil must never dry out completely. As with other carnivorous plants, pitcher plants do not like lime in the water. Therefore, use rainwater or demineralized water. It can be a good idea to spray them with water using a mister a couple of times a week.
NOTE: In the winter, the plant may stop producing new pitchers. This is a natural reaction to less light and lower humidity. In the spring, it will likely begin to form pitchers again.
