  • Latin name: Amorphophallus kachinensis
  • Danish names: Penis plant
  • English names: Voodoo lily

This Amorphophallus species originates from China and parts of Asia, where it grows in dense vegetation. The tubers are large and round. The flowers are greenish-yellow.

When the leaf withers and dies back, the tuber can be dug up and kept dry until new growth can be seen.

NOTE: The seeds must not be allowed to dry out!

Seed germination

The seeds arrive already moist. Sow the seeds directly into moist seed compost or cactus soil. Alternatively, place the seeds between moist paper towels, which are then placed in a sealed bag. Place in a bright and warm location.

Childcare

Plant in a pot with good potting soil. Increase the pot size each year as the tuber grows. When the leaf dies back, the tuber can be dug up and kept dry until new growth is visible. It should also be kept dry if you leave the tuber in the pot.

- Place in a bright spot, but out of direct sunlight
- Prefers shelter from the wind
- Good, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil
- Fertilize during the growing season
