Biophytum sensitivum is an incredibly charming little palm-like plant. It originates from Southeast Asia and is used as natural medicine in Nepal and India, among other places. The name "sensitivum" comes from the fact that the leaves fold up at night and when touched (like the sensitive plant).

In recent years, the plant has become incredibly popular especially as a terrarium plant, but also as a houseplant. It looks like a miniature palm and provides a distinctly tropical atmosphere. It thrives in moist and semi-wet conditions, and in nature, it can usually be found near small rivers and waterfalls.
