VERY RARE

  • Latin name: Musa acuminata "Siam Ruby"
  • Danish names: Banan, prydbanan, pryd-banan
  • English names: Banana

Musa acuminata (Siam ruby) is a rare and incredibly beautiful red variety of the more common ornamental banana (Musa acuminata). Musa acuminata originally hails from Southeast Asia. Many of today's commercial bananas descend from this species. It is a fast-growing species that does not reach a great height (compared to other species). The leaves are large and green, and with sufficient light, they will take on a reddish sheen.

It can form flowers and subsequently bananas. However, the fruits are small and full of seeds, and therefore not suitable for eating. See also our other banana plants.

Note: The images are intended as examples of the plant and do not necessarily represent the exact plant being purchased.

Childcare

The banana plant cannot tolerate temperatures below 10 degrees and must therefore be kept protected. It can be kept in a pot indoors year-round. In autumn or after flowering, the "parent plant" may die back. However, new plants will emerge from the roots.
